AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Federal buildings nationwide will be closed Wednesday as the nation honors the death of former President George H.W. Bush, who died Nov. 30 at the age of 94.
The White House sent out information about an executive order from President Donald J. Trump that provides guidance for the heads of federal agencies to plan for the closure.
“The heads of executive departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 5, 2018, for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need,” the order reads.
The order says Dec. 5 will fall under executive order 11582 which ensures no interruption in pay for federal employees.
Mr. Trump declared Wednesday a National Day of Mourning and ordered flags to half-staff for 30 days.
Bush will be memorialized in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, and will be laid to rest Thursday in College Station, Texas.
