KRON—The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating an hepatitis A outbreak in Hawaii that is linked to raw scallops.

The Hawaii Department of Health reports 206 people have become ill with hepatitis A.

The illnesses started from June 12 to August 9.

All of those diagnosed with hepatitis A are adults and 51 of them have been hospitalized.

The FDA has worked with the Hawaii Department of Health to find that raw scallops was a common food everyone with the illness had consumed.

The investigation also found Sea Port Products Corp. imported the scallops to some Genki Sushi restaurants in Hawaii.

Hepatitis A spreads when people consume fecal matter even in the smallest amounts.
