Three healthcare workers tragically lost their lives Friday when a veteran slipped into the Pathway Home in Yountville and took them hostage.
There were seven people inside when the gunman, Albert Wong, walked in. He later released four of them to safety.
One of those freed a was a counselor.
KRON4’s Ella Sogamonian spoke to her father who says she is still recovering from the traumatic experience.
It was another day at her first job that suddenly took a frightening turn for Haley Rekdahl. A former patient walked into a staff party at the Pathway Home holding a gun.
A still in shock father met with KRON4 on her behalf.
“He called out four names and said that they could go and my daughter was one of the names,” Craig Rekdahl said.
Haley started work as a counselor for the nonprofit after she graduated from Sonoma State for psychology.
Her father is grateful Wong let her go but says he can’t dwell on the danger that comes with the profession.
His daughter ran to safety where she waited for 8 hours during the hostage situation only to find the lives of three women she’s looked up to were tragically cut short.
