SEASIDE (KRON) — Family members is holding a memorial Monday night for a mother and her child killed while walking outside a Livermore apartment complex.
46-year-old Esperanza Morales-Rodriguez of Seaside and her 14-month-old daughter Ulidia “Juli” Perez-Morales were killed on May 2 when police say a car plowed into them as they walked near an apartment complex in the 900 block of Murrieta Boulevard in Livermore.RESOURCE LINK: Fundraiser for mom and baby
Brian Jones, 35, was allegedly speeding on Murrieta Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle, according to Livermore police officer Ryan Sanchez. The mother and daughter were walking on a paved path between the sidewalk and an apartment complex when Jones’ vehicle struck them, Sanchez said.
Morales-Rodriguez and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said debris from the crash struck two boys, who were taken to a hospital and were listed in stable condition.
Jones was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, gross vehicular manslaughter. He has yet to be arraigned on those charges; his potential arraignment was postponed until May 28, prosecutors said.
Preliminary tests indicate that Jones was driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent or higher, police said.
A formal funeral will take place in Mexico.
According to their fundraising site, Esperanza and Juli left behind a family of three: their a 10-year-old son/brother, 22-year-old daughter/sister, and the husband/father of 45 years old.
