ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) – It’s been a busy weekend for Susan Withey and her friends. They spent the last few days building a Batman-themed float for Round Rock’s Fourth of July parade.
“Give him just a boost of encouragement and to give him a day where he just forgets about the word cancer,” says Withey.
Seven-year-old Brock Fleming is the guest of honor and will be riding on the float with his family.
In May, doctors diagnosed Brock with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, known as DIPG, a rare form of brain cancer. Brock just finished radiation last week.
“When I think about how courageous Brock is, I really think about him going through this radiation,” says Melissa Fleming, Brock’s mother.
Brock’s family hopes this brave boy can forget about the tumor for a little while, and focus on the float that friends worked so hard to create.
“We feel very blessed,” says Melissa, with tear-filled eyes, as she thinks about the support of her family and friends.
Blessings to help Brock get through the toughest time of his life.
“I’m really proud of my little man, he’s a good kid and he’s staying strong. I love him,” says Melissa.
