Fallen officers remembered nationwide and in the Bay Area

SAN JOSE (KRON) — Bagpipes played at the Nation’s Capitol in Washington, D.C. Friday, in a ceremony to remember fallen police officers.

This year’s national peace officer’s memorial paid tribute to the 131 officers who were killed in the line of duty over the year.

President Obama spoke at service in Washington, D.C., saying that law enforcement should be honored and thanked for what they do on a daily basis.

A similar ceremony was held in San Jose, where 14-year veteran Michael Johnson was killed in March.

Johnson wasn’t the only officer remembered. One by one, officers read the names of officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Dating back to 1862, 40 Santa Clara County peace officers have been killed in the line of duty.
