SONOMA Co. (KRON) — Mandatory evacuations have been lifted in Sonoma County, where the Sawmill fire has scorched a massive amount of acres.
According to Sonoma County officials, evacuations have been lifted as of 6:00 p.m., Monday evening.
Cal Fire crews said, the Sawmill fire has burned up to 1,547 acres off of Geysers and Geysers Resort Roads. The fire is 100 percent contained.
The blaze first erupted Sunday, September 10th around 10:58 a.m. and evacuations were issued immediately.
There have been no reports of property damage in the affected area.
Sonoma County officials advise those who are returning to evacuated areas to follow these rules.
- Use caution when re-entering a burned area – flare-ups can occur.
- Check grounds for hot spots smoldering stumps and vegetation. Douse with buckets of water if needed.
- Check throughout the house and the roof and exterior areas for sparks and embers.
- Continue to check for problem areas for several days.
- Contact 911 if any danger is perceived.
If burning outside your home was extensive, watch for soil erosion.
