EMERYVILLE (KRON) — Emeryville Police said they will be temporarily closed Saturday morning due to a rally and march by protestors.

The protests are in response to the Feb. 3 officer-involved shooting. The protestors plan to rally at the Emeryville Police Department and march, according to police.

“The Police Department will be temporarily closed to the public during this rally for the safety of all. Thank you for your understanding,” police said.

On Feb. 3, a shoplifting suspect was shot and killed by Emeryville police. The shooting took place outside of the Home Depot at 3838 Hollis St. in Oakland.

The woman was allegedly putting the items under her purse in a shopping cart and wheeled it out of the store without paying, Emeryville police Chief Ken James said.

Investigators said the suspect also tried to carjack three different motorists before officers responded.

When the two Emeryville officers arrived, the woman turned her revolver at them, James said. They fired a total of seven shots between the two of them. One officer, a woman, fired only once while the other, a man, fired six times.
