BERLIN (KRON/AP) – An elephant that killed a man over the weekend after escaping from a German circus has been relocated to a safari park in northwestern Germany.
On Saturday, the 34-year-old African elephant named “Baby” killed a 65-year-old man who was walking in the woods near Buchen, in southwestern Germany. Police said Monday they were still investigating whether a circus worker forgot to close the elephant’s cage or if she was intentionally released.
It’s still unclear what prompted the attack.
Animal care workers successfully relocated the elephant to Safari Park Stukenbrock. The park’s spokeswoman Susanna Stubbe says Baby is being kept away from the public but is now living with three other elephants and “her socialization is going well.” Officials say the elephant is showing no signs of aggression. The park says it already has two other elephants from a circus that folded last year.
