Staff at Brookfield Elementary School are trying to find ways to keep kids warm as the school goes another day without heat and gas since last Thursday.

According to the Oakland Unified School District, 18 space heaters have been provided to help in the situation.

Officials say the problem is due to a crack in a gas line on school property that led PG&E to shut off the gas supply.

Students were evacuated as a precaution but returned later after the gas leak was capped.

There is no central heating or hot meals while the problem is still under investigation.

School district officials say the repair is expected to take several days and was delayed last week due to rain.

Officials said the district may attempt to make repairs this morning before the impending rain storm.

The problem is located on school property, making it the responsibility of the City, not PG&E to fix.
