WALNUT CREEK (KRON) — An elderly woman died Saturday, just one day after she was involved in a car accident in Walnut Creek.
According to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office and Walnut Creek police Sgt. Joe Donleavy, 96-year-old Dorothy Peterson was a passenger in the car that was being driven by her 66-year-old niece when she was involved in an accident.
The accident happened around 2:50 p.m. in the 2100 block of San Luis Road, said Donleavy.
Police said that the driver of the car hit a parked car, leaving Peterson with serious injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Her niece wasn’t hurt in the accident.
Peterson was taken to the hospital, where she died the following morning.
Police don’t yet know what caused the accident, but said that drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be factors in the accident.
