PITTSBURG (KRON) — A suspect has been arrested in connection to a freeway shooting on state Highway 4 in Pittsburg on Friday, according to California Highway Patrol.
McCoy Tiasawn, an alleged gang member, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez on $1.3 million bail, CHP officials said.
There have been 16 shootings on freeways in Contra Costa and Alameda counties since November 2015, authorities said.
So far there have been 10 shooting on I-80, two on I-580, one on I-880, one on Hwy 242 and two on Hwy 4.
Three of those shootings are being investigated as homicides.
Police say all of the shootings are gang-related and are not random.
The arrest was part of an operation made up of federal, state, county and local law enforcement officers that targets known gang members and their crimes.
77 suspects have been arrested in the sting operation, many of whom are alleged to have gang ties. A total of 29 firearms have been seized so far, according to the CHP.
Tiasawn is the only suspect that has been arrested in connection with one of the 16 freeway shootings.
