PLEASANTON (KRON) — Pleasanton police officers were patrolling the parking lot at the Bernal Safeway when they spotted a man running out of the grocery store with two baskets of baby formula.
Police said the man got into an orange Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a female, later identified as Dejan Martin of San Leandro.
As Safeway employees were calling police about the theft, Martin led police on a chose northbound on the Interstate 680.
She exited the freeway on Stoneridge Drive, where just lot control of the car and just missed crashing into a pole.
Martin and her male passenger, later identified as Demarko Luke of Oakland, ran from the car, toward Val Vista Park.
Responding officers surrounded the area, and canine officers were able to find the duo hiding in the park.
Martin and Luke were both arrested on several felony counts.
After searching the car, police found a trunk full of baby formula.
Police think it was likely stolen from other stores.
They’re investigating to see if Martin and Luke are responsible for a similar robbery at the same Safeway on March 1.
