SANTA ROSA (BCN) — The Sonoma County DUI Task Force screened more than 900 vehicles at a checkpoint set up Friday night in Santa Rosa.
From 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday morning, the checkpoint was set up to target northbound traffic on Morgan Street at Third Street. It was an effort to raise public awareness about the dangers of driving impaired and to take “enforcement action” against impaired or unlicensed drivers, according to task force officials.
Out of 911 drivers screened at the checkpoint, officers administered field sobriety on 37 of them. Five drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and 23 more were arrested for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license, according to task force officials.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
