DUBLIN (KRON) — The Dublin San Ramon Services District says their customers successfully cut back water usage by 24% in 2014, that’s 882.6 gallons of water less than in 2013.

The district say they were able to achieve this goal by requiring construction site to use recycled water for soil compaction and dust control. The district also restricted wholesale allocations by 25 percent to four water retailers, and households were limited to no more than 4,480 gallons of water per week.

Officials say a successful outreach campaign played a major role in conservation efforts.

In a prepared statement, DSRSD Board President Ed Duarte called the community’s response to drought conditions one of the best in the state, but warned that continued conservation may be necessary due to low reservoirs and mountain snowpack.
