SEASIDE (KRON) — A convicted felon was arrested Saturday morning after he was found sleeping in a running car in Seaside, police said.
Police said the man was intoxicated and armed with a gun.
Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a man passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was blocking the roadway in the 1700 block of Lowell Street, police said.
Officers arrived and found the man, later identified as Grady Clay, 45, of Seaside, sleeping while the car engine was running, according to police.
“Clay displayed common signs of alcohol intoxication and had numerous empty alcohol bottles throughout his vehicle,” police said.
“As officers asked him to exit the car, a large firearm was seen on the floorboard near Clay’s feet,” police said.
The firearm was determined to be a “stolen, loaded, .45 caliber Ruger revolver,” according to police.
Clay was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm, police said.
As a convicted felon, Clay was banned from possessing any firearms. He was booked into Monterey County Jail, police said.
