SAN MATEO COUNTY (BCN) — Law enforcement officers are looking for a person who was driving a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup, which collided head-on Sunday night with a 1992 Honda in unincorporated San Mateo County, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The collision, which killed the driver of the Honda, was first reported at 6:57 p.m. on state Highway 84 near Sylvan Way.
CHP officials said it appears the Honda was traveling east on Highway 84, west of the town of La Honda, when the Ford crossed the double yellow lines into the eastbound lane and the two vehicles collided.
The Ford overturned in the collision, but the driver left the truck and ran into the woods, witnesses told CHP officers.
The collision is under investigation. CHP officials are looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the collision.
Both directions of Highway 84 are closed as officers investigate and CHP officials have not said when the highway will reopen.
Anyone who knows the identity of the driver of the Ford or the driver’s whereabouts is being asked to call Officer Jason Thinnes at (650) 369-6261.
