OAKLAND (KRON/BCN) — A driver was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash after hitting a tree while exiting Interstate Highway 580 early Saturday morning in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree along the connector ramp from westbound Highway 580 to northbound state Highway 13 around 2:10 a.m.

On arrival they found a silver Honda Odyssey with impact damage directly to the driver’s door. The victim died at the scene, according to the CHP.

The name of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the CHP is asking any witnesses to call (510) 450-3821.
