Dozen people on a party bus arrested after alleged melee in Antioch

ANTIOCH (KRON) — A dozen people were arrested and five guns seized after a group of teens and young adults on a party bus allegedly raided a grocery store in Antioch on Friday.

Around 11:40 p.m., officers with the Antioch Police Department were called the Safeway grocery store located in the 3300 block of Deer Valley Boulevard after getting reports that a group was “creating havoc” inside the store, Sgt. Tom Fuhrmann said.

“They were tipping things over and doing grab and runs of alcohol and other items,” Fuhrmann said. “My understanding is that the bus driver got wind of what was going on and locked them out of the bus.”

When officers arrived they detained everybody outside the bus while they reviewed video and interviewed people.

Of the dozen arrests, 11 were arrested on suspicion of petty theft, and one for resisting arrest and obstructing officers. The youngest person arrested was just 13 years old; the oldest was 26. There were both males and females arrested and he said they were from all over the Bay Area.

During their investigation, police found five loaded firearms. They are still determining who owns each gun.

Fuhrmann said he had “no idea” why the party bus was in Antioch or what they were doing.
