It doesn’t get much better than this: dozens of dogs on surfboards competing for the World’s Dog Surf Championship in Pacifica.
45 dogs from around the country are here in Pacifica competing in the World Surfing Competition, including Gidget, she’s actually Instagram famous.
Gidget has over 70 million followers on Instagram.
This is the fourth time she has competed in the surf competition.
Gidget’s owner Fiona says it’s a blast every year.
“It’s all about having fun, get out there with your dog and have a great time,” she said.
It’s not only about having fun, but the competition also raises money for two local animal shelters.
Surf dog moms traveled all the way from Southern California to be apart of it all.
A lot of surf dogs came up from San Diego and Los Angeles.
Hundreds of people with their toes in the sand watched as the dogs competed.
Pups of all sizes went into the 57-degree ocean to shred the gnar.
“Stiff competition today,” a judge said. “There were a few wipeouts, but you see the dogs bounce back up. Really going for the gold today.”
Several judges stood by looking for specific skills to see who will be the winning pup. “How long they can stay on the board, if they look nervous,” a judge explained. “Because you can tell when they look nervous. Some dogs will do tricks, hang their paws on the front and flip around.”
The crowd went wild every time the dogs were able to ride the wave into shore.
“I mean, who doesn’t like dog surfing, seriously,” an onlooker said.
