Dog Thrown from Car Finds New Home

SANTA CRUZ (KRON) — Beverly, the mother dog who stood by the body of her dead puppy after they were thrown from a moving car has found a new family.

On February 20, Beverly and her puppy were thrown from a moving car in Watsonville.

Animal control officers found the two on Minto Road near the dumb.

Both were sealed in sandbags.

Beverly is a sable, tan and white Miniature Pincher/Chihuahua mix, approximately 6 years old.

Her puppy was only about 4-6 weeks old.

Officers arrived there to find that the puppy had died and its mother had remained standing next its body and although she was afraid of them, the mother refused to leave her puppy’s side.

After the mother was placed into the animal control vehicle, she started crying and scratching the door and calmed down when officers put her dead puppy beside her.

The puppy died of blunt force head trauma from the impact and the mother chewed her way through her bag, freed herself and pulled the puppy out.

Almost a month after being found, Beverly went to her forever home Sunday thanks to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter and the Center for Animal Protection and Education (CAPE).

Beverly’s new family includes a dog named Dobby. Her new guardian says, “If I send you too many pictures, just tell me enough. I feel like a first time father that thinks they have the first cute baby.”
