SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — A family dog died in a house fire Thursday morning in San Leandro.
The Alameda County Fire Department was called about the fire at 538 McKinley Court at 9:14 a.m. when a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the house.
Fire officials arrived to find the house empty, except for the family’s two dogs.
Crews were able to rescue one of the dogs, but the other did not survive.
The surviving dog was taken to the veterinarian for emergency care.
Battalion Chief Jim Call is calling the bedroom and its contents “completely destroyed,” but said they were able to keep the fire contained to that one room.
Firefighters extinguished the fire at about 9:45 a.m. and neither civilians nor firefighters were injured. A fire investigator is at the home to determine the cause, Call said.
