LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) — A convicted sex offender in Florida discovered he picked the wrong back yard to trespass in when he was discovered by a deputy who lives at the home.
Lake Wales Police Department officers responded to a call about a prowler just after 6 a.m. on Monday.
When police officers arrived, they were met by a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy who lives at the home. She said she was in her marked PCSO patrol car which was parked in her driveway and saw Christopher Couch walking from her back yard.
The deputy, who was in uniform, got out of her patrol car and held Couch at gunpoint until Lake Wales Police Department officers arrived.
Couch told Lake Wales police officers that he went to the back yard to urinate. He also told the officers that he is a registered sex offender.
Police asked Couch why he did not go into a nearby orange grove to urinate, since the orange grove was closer to where he had parked his car. Couch told them that he did not know why he did not go to the orange grove.
Police asked Couch why he was so far away from his own residence so early in the morning and he allegedly told them that he does not sleep well and likes to drive around town.
Police said he could not give them a good explanation as to why he was in the deputy’s back yard.
Officers arrested Couch on a charge of prowling.Florida state records show Couch was convicted for a sex crime in Kent, Michigan in 2001.
