SONOMA COUNTY(KRON)— Two people were arrested in Windsor Wednesday night for transporting over 100 pounds of marijuana in their rental car after a canine deputy sniffed it out.

A Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a black, Toyota Avalon driving southbound 101 after 9 p.m.

The car was travelling too close to the car beside it.

Deputies pulled the car over where they found the driver Steven Molinero, 27, and his passenger Almir Rancic, 29. Both men are from Staten Island, NY.

The canine deputy could smell the marijuana coming from the car.

Rancic and Molinero both said they didn’t know the marijuana was there.

The dog named Jags is a certified drug-sniffing canine and he searched the car.

Jags alerted deputies about the location of several duffel bags with 108 pounds of marijuana inside which were all double-wrapped.

Molinero also had over $2,000 in cash.

Rancic and Molinero were booked and arrested into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana for sale and conspiracy.

They have both been released on $30,000 bail.
