Crews will begin tearing down the Vallco Shopping Mall in Cupertino Thursday.

The shopping center, located at North Wolfe Road and Vallco Parkway is currently empty.

Three weeks ago, the City of Cupertino voted to approve the plans to transform the property.

The plan is to make room for a new and improved mixed-use town center that includes nearly 3,000 residential units.

The center will have office, retail, and entertainment spaces, according to the developer, Sand Hill Property Company.

The developers are also considering a separate plan that would include 50 percent low income housing units.
