LOS ANGELES (AP) — The decomposing body of a University of Southern California student who may have been dead for a week has been discovered in his dorm room.

Twenty-four-year-old Jacob Kelley was found Wednesday afternoon at Seaver Residence Hall, which is located at USC’s Health Sciences campus about eight miles from the main campus.

Kelley was a first-year student in a master’s program in medical physiology.

Police Detective David Alvarez says Kelley was discovered after a maintenance person detected a foul smell. He says Kelley may have been dead for seven days.

Alvarez says there were no signs of foul play. Kelley was lying clothed but shoeless on his bed and the room was neat.

The detective says classes had only recently resumed and Kelley still had clothes in a suitcase.

An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON:
