Decline in teens taking on summer jobs

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A lot of you might remember summers filled with work, but numbers show fewer teenagers are working during their time off of school.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says only 40 percent of teens are getting jobs.

That’s down from 72 percent in 1978.

Studies also show some students don’t take on jobs because they have decided to  focus on their academics to help them get to college.

They may also be have internships, sports, summer school or advanced courses.
