The Environmental Protection Agency registered repellents containing approved ingredients, proving most effectively when applied.
Officials from the Centers for Disease Control recommended using two separate products when applying sunscreen and insect repellent, instead of using a dual purpose repellent. Insect repellent does not need to be reapplied constantly as sunscreen, therefore making it effective to only apply it once.
Below is a list of approved ingredients to look out for when purchasing insect repellents.
- DEET
- Picaridin
- Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (PMD)
