DAVIS (KRON) — The city of Davis says its taking a stand against childhood obesity. On Tuesday, the Davis City Council vote unanimously to pass an ordinance making milk or water the default drink in kids’ meals.

The ordinance says that restaurants will include milk or water in kids’ meals, unless a parent specifically asks for soda for their child.

The new rule will go into effect September 1.

Advocates say that this is the first ordinance of its kind in the country.

Studies show that parents will opt for the healthier option, if presented with a choice.
