This past weekend’s dangerous sideshow on the Bay Bridge was not the first stop for those participating in the illegal roadshow.
Sideshow drivers targeted a location near the bridge to warm up for a wild ride above the bay.
Tire skid marks were made during an illegal sideshow on Sunday on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge.
Before they drove onto the bridge, some of those same sideshow participants made these burnout marks on an open lot on Treasure Island.
“I can tell you that Treasure Island is a hot spot for sideshows,” San Francisco Police Department Officer Joseph Tomlinson said.
Treasure Island was once Tomlinson’s beat.
He talks about why it takes a coordinated law enforcement effort to handle sideshow activity there.
“With Treasure Island the unique location there, we have to work hand-in-hand with other law enforcement agencies like CHP, to get on Treasure Island,” Tomlinson said. “That’s going to be CHP, but once you’re on Treasure Island, that is San Francisco.”
East Bay sideshow activity is well documented, but people on Treasure Island say this past weekend’s sideshow activity is part of the norm around there.
San Francisco police say Sunday’s sideshow activity on Treasure Island remains under investigation.
