PACIFICA (KRON) — Much of the coastal Bay Area regions are under a high surf warning as of 9 a.m. Monday morning — including the Pacifica Pier.
The pier and neighboring Beach Boulevard, from Paloma Avenue and Montecito Avenue, are closed indefinitely until surf conditions improve, the city said in a statement Monday.
The Moonraker Restaurant at Pacifica’s Rockaway Beach was hit by large waves around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning, the restaurant manager told KRON4. The waves broke a window, causing significant structural damage to the outside of the building and flooding to one of the restaurant’s rooms.
The manager said a similar flooding incident happening in January 2017.
Amid the dangerous surfing conditions, officials are warning beach-goers to use caution along the coast.
The National Weather Service issued a high surf warning Monday morning that will be in effect until 9 p.m. tonight, calling this the ‘largest wave event this season.’
The wave conditions also caused officials to cancel Half Moon Bay’s Maverick’s Surf Competition until further notice — citing the inconsistency of the surf conditions.
Officials say they’ll wait for better surf conditions to reschedule the competition.
Waves are expected to peak Monday evening into Tuesday.
