OAKLAND (BCN) — A 19-year-old Daly City man died in a fatal collision early Saturday morning on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland, California Highway Patrol officials and the Alameda County coroner said.

Martin Ramirez lost control of Red Nissan Altima, spun out and crashed into the right shoulder wall on I-880 near the Interstate Highway 980 overpass shortly before CHP officers responded at 1:35 a.m.

Ramirez’s Nissan came to rest within the lanes of I-880 and was struck by a southbound pickup truck, CHP officials said. The driver of the truck immediately stopped after the crash.

Ramirez was getting out of the Nissan when a red Mitsubishi Spyder hit the Nissan and killed him.

CHP officials said the drivers of the truck and Mitsubishi were not under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The drivers of both vehicles are cooperating in the investigation.

CHP officials won’t know whether Ramirez was driving under the influence until a coroner’s report is complete.

The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses are being asked to call the Oakland CHP office at (510) 450-3821 or (707) 551-4100.
