A man has been arrested for trespassing into a Burlingame girl’s room early Monday morning, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
At around 5 a.m., a 35-year-old man and his two nieces were sleeping in separate bedrooms. Moments later, his 11-year-old niece came into his room and said there was a man sitting on the edge of her bed, the DA said.
When the uncle went into the other bedroom, he said he saw a man sleeping in the 11-year-old’s bed. The uncle then picked up his 8-year-old niece sleeping in another bed, ran out, and called the police.
When police arrived, they found the suspect, identified as Jared Enix, still sleeping in the 11-year-old bed, the DA said.
Officers pulled back the covers and say they found Enix with his pants down around his ankles and his genitals exposed. After officers woke him up, Enix said, “I was raped,” the DA said.
Enix had refused to identify himself or answer any questions. He was arrested and later identified through fingerprints at the San Mateo County Jail.
“The defense attorney expressed a doubt regarding the defendant’s competency to stand trial. The court suspended criminal proceedings and continued the case to October 19, 2018 10:30 on the misdemeanor competency calendar for appointment of a doctor to evaluate the defendant and to set further competency proceedings,” the DA notes said.
Bail is set at $15,000.
