More people are flocking to southeast Los Angeles to check out the gorgeous poppies.
It’s a bit of a trek to get up to Walker Canyon but this time of year, millions of fluorescent orange California poppies make the hills here picture perfect.
All the rain we’ve received this winter made for one spectacular super bloom of poppies in Lake Elsinore.
It’s drawing a lot of visitors and creating a lot of traffic.
Especially on the weekends, when upwards of 1,000 people per day stop to see the super-bloom.
Traffic on the 15 freeway can back up for 10 to 20 miles.
Although you can see the wildflowers from the freeway, CHP warns drivers it’s illegal to pull over on the shoulder and get out to take pictures.
It’s something they saw with the last super bloom in 2017. This time around they have officers on site so they’re encouraging visitors to take the Lake Street exit and wait their turn.
The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve says their bloom will likely peak later this month or at the beginning of April.
