ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Investigators say a witness called police after spotting James Dingman in Coronado Park near 2nd Street and I-40 stumbling around while carrying a baby in a chest carrier.
Another witness says Dingman was trying to sell the baby to people in the park.
According to a criminal complaint, he later admitted to officers he was on methadone while carrying the six month old.
In court Sunday, Dingman told the judge he didn’t think he should be charged under the state’s child abuse and abandonment statute.
Officers also say they found more than a dozen baggies of heroin on Dingman.
He’s booked on a $15,000 bond.
