SAN RAFAEL (BCN) — Firefighters extinguished a small vegetation fire this morning in San Rafael, which may have been started by residents of a homeless encampment, according to fire officials.

The blaze was first reported at 6:04 a.m. near Merrydale Road and Pilgrim Way, according to Battalion Chief Matt Windrem.

Firefighters were able bring the fire under control within about 20 minutes upon arrival, Windrem said.

No structures were damaged and no one was injured as a result of the blaze, according to Windrem.

Evidence of a nearby encampment suggested the fire may have been started by human activity, however fire officials are continuing to investigate a cause for the fire, Windrem said.
