CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (BAN) — No one was injured and no structures were damaged in two grass fires that burned a total of about 10 acres this morning in unincorporated Contra Costa County, Alameda County Fire Department officials said.

The fires were first reported at 9:12 a.m. near the intersection of Vasco and Los Vaqueros roads.

The fires burned along the west side of Vasco Road, Alameda County fire Battalion Chief Stephanie Radecke said.

Firefighters succeeded at keeping the fires from jumping the road because otherwise they could have burned all the way to Byron, Radecke said.

The fires were contained at 9:45 p.m. The causes are under investigation.

Radecke asked that motorists driving near a brush fire or wildfire slow down and turn their lights on, especially when firefighters are working

right alongside the road.

“Cars were just flying along Vasco Road,” Radecke said. “Firefighters safety is our primary concern.”

She said her firefighters have fought a lot of fires lately and no one has been hurt luckily.
