NAPA (BCN) — A Napa County Jail inmate was found dead in his cell Sunday morning, a county spokeswoman said.

Christopher Applegarth, 44, was found unresponsive by a Napa County Department of Corrections officer around 8:35 a.m. Sunday, county spokeswoman Kristi Jourdan said.

After attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel, Jourdan said.

Applegarth was in custody since Saturday, when he was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on a state parole violation warrant, according to Jourdan.

The initial investigation showed Applegarth did not have any obvious injuries and there were no signs of foul play, Jourdan said.

The Napa County coroner’s office is investigating the death and will schedule an autopsy, Jourdan said.
