ANTIOCH (BCN) — A Pittsburg resident who was killed by a man he allegedly tried to rob at gunpoint in Antioch last week has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 27-year-old Richard Pareno.
Pareno was fatally shot at about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a Rite Aid at 20 E. 18th St. by the victim he allegedly robbed and carjacked, police said.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday said it was choosing not to file charges against Pareno’s alleged shooter, 37-year-old Leo Lopez, after he was initially arrested on suspicion of murder.
But another man, 26-year-old Timothy Jones, was charged that day after he was identified by police as Pareno’s accomplice.
Jones was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, attempted second-degree robbery and carjacking, according to the district attorney’s office.
