A woman shot and killed a man during a North Bay police pursuit on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, is dead. Police say the passenger, a 24-year-old woman, shot him.

Fairfield police are calling it a domestic violence incident.

It is still an active scene in Fairfield on Thursday night. The crime tape is still up, and you can see the vehicles are still there.

Fairfield police say the people in the vehicle were in a relationship and living together.

Police say it was the woman’s cry for help that led officers on a chase. She told officers she was being kidnapped.

It started around 2:30 p.m. when police tried to pull the car over. The vehicle crashed near the intersection of Dover Avenue and East Travis Boulevard.

Sometime during the chase, the woman shot the driver while a 10-month-old baby was in the backseat. This is the woman’s child.

Police also found a gun in the car. The man was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police say this is a domestic violence case.

“During the pursuit, the driver started having some questioning driver behavior where he was hitting the curb things like that,” Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut said. “There was maybe an issue if that meant the fight was still going on or something else, and then driver crashed here at the intersection of Dover along with some other vehicles waiting.”

As for the other drivers involved, they have non-life-threatening injuries.

The identities of the people involved in the pursuit are not going to be released.

The woman who shot the man is being questioned by authorities to determine if she is a victim of domestic violence or a suspect of unlawful killing.

The intersection remains closed, while the investigation continues.
