A Walnut Creek teacher has been arrested for sex acts with kids while he babysat them, police said.

Police arrested 27-year-old Brandon Genest, of Walnut Creek, for two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child and three counts of Indecent Exposure, officers said.

Genest was taken into custody at his home. The investigation started with accusations that he had children inappropriately touch him while he was working as a babysitter.

Genest is also a high school teacher at Bentley School in Lafayette and is currently on administrative leave.

Police say Genest worked as a babysitter for families in Contra Costa and Alameda counties.

He has advertised his babysitting services on the following websites: Sittercity, Urban Sitter, Care, and numerous Facebook groups.

Genest is being held on $1.2 million bail.

There are no other known victims, police said.

Here is a statement from the school:

Last week, the Walnut Creek Police Department informed Bentley School of allegations of lewd behavior against Brandon Genest, a chemistry teacher in the Upper School. Dr. Genest was immediately placed on administrative leave and instructed not to return to campus until the matter was resolved.

Today Bentley learned that Dr. Genest had been arrested on charges related to his employment as a babysitter. We have informed our community and encouraged anyone with information about inappropriate behavior to contact the Walnut Creek Police Department.

Dr. Genest joined the Bentley faculty in August 2017. As is our policy, we conducted a background check and no issues were reported by the Department of Justice.

When school opens again in the fall, we will hold age-appropriate assemblies to speak with our students and make sure they understand the importance of talking to a trusted adult anytime someone’s behavior makes them feel uncomfortable. Meanwhile, we will have counselors available this week to meet with any students who need additional support.

Bentley School takes this news very seriously. The safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority. Our goal is to keep our community informed, and to remain constantly vigilant around all issues of safety for every student.
