CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (KRON) — With higher temperatures comes an increased danger of fires.

In Contra Costa County, higher humidity levels kept fire officials from issuing a red flag warning.

While crews were not out patrolling the dry hillsides, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall says they are ready to go at a moment’s notice.

While being mindful of the whole county, crews are keeping a close eye on areas that are really dry. Those areas include Lafayette, the southern areas of Walnut Creek, Mt. Diablo, Pittsburg, Antioch and Bay Point.

With the drought in its fourth year, heavier fuels like trees and shrubs are extremely dry. Fire crews want to focus on keeping small wildfires from turning into big ones.

The fire department say that they responded to several small vegetation fires, and a couple of structure fires.

Along with that, crews were kept busy with various heat related emergencies.
