CONCORD (KRON) — A candlelight vigil is underway Friday night to remember Concord native Michele Davis, the mother of eight young children who was allegedly murdered by her husband on March 26.
Davis, 35, attended Mountain View Elementary, El Dorado Middle School, and was part of the Class of ’98 at Concord High.
She was stabbed to death in her home last week as her children, who range from 3 to 14, watched in horror. A 14-year-old daughter called 911 to frantically plead for help.
Davis’ son told investigators that his father struck him after becoming upset with the boy for playing video games, and the child then told his mother and she confronted the father, starting an argument. The children saw the husband then chase the wife with a knife from the kitchen to the front door, where police found her body in a pool of blood, the document said.
Investigators in Goodyear, Arizona, said Davis was stabbed at least 13 times in her back.
Police say none of the seven children who witnessed the attack were hurt. An eighth child, age 16, wasn’t home when the attack occurred.
The husband, 37-year-old John Leo Davis, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and jailed on $2 million bond.
Davis and her husband were parents to three of the seven children who were present, while the husband is father to two others, and the wife was the mother to the remaining two, police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis said.
The vigil is being held at Dave Brubeck Park on Concord Blvd. starting at 7 p.m.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help support the children.
