MARTINEZ (KRON) — A Concord man convicted of having unprotected sex with boys as young as 13 while knowing that he is HIV-positive has been sentenced to 29 years in prison.
25-year-old Anthony Tafoya pleaded guilty to 11 counts of sex crimes with four different victims. A special age enhancement was added to the charges because of the victims’ ages.
Deputy District Attorney Alison Chandler said that Tafoya was also ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to one victim and $50,000 in restitution to another.
From 2011 to 2012, Chandler said Tafoya contacted boys aged 13 to 16 through the Internet.
Chandler said it was “unfortunate” how the series of events unfolded for all involved.
“Everybody can now begin to heal and move forward,” she said
