SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. (WBAY) – A Wisconsin woman has been charged with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide for the death of her 2-year-old son.
A criminal complaint says Katlyn Kinateder, 27, suffocated her son Dexter by placing a plastic grocery bag over his head.
Kinateder told police she had “lost my mind” and “wanted to die,” according to the complaint.
The Sheboygan Falls woman said she had stopped taking anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications 9 months earlier and felt “lost.”
Last Thursday, Kinateder called dispatchers to report she had killed her child:
Dispatcher: “OK, what’s the problem?”
Caller: “I killed my son.”
Dispatcher: “You what?”
Caller: “I killed my son.”
Police say officers responding to the home on the 700-block of Woodview Avenue were attacked by the mother with a butcher knife as she advanced down the stairs toward officers. Police say she ignored commands to drop the knife and get on the ground. She eventually dropped the knife but advanced on the officers a second time.
An officer used his Taser stun gun twice to restrain Kinateder as she “struggled aggressively.”
After placing her in handcuffs, officers went into the condominium and found the toddler in a cardboard box in a closet.
The boy was pronounced dead at St. Nicholas Hospital.
After she was taken into custody, Kinateder told police she had wanted them to “shoot her dead.”
