HAYWARD (KRON) — Loved ones Wednesday night were paying their respects to fallen Hayward police Sgt. Scott Lunger.

He is the the Hayward police officer killed in the line of duty last week. On Thursday, the fallen officer will be laid to rest, following a memorial service at Oracle Arena.

On Wednesday, a public viewing is being held at the Chapel of Chimes in Hayward.

The police chief expects as many as 8,000 people to attend the funeral at Oracle Area. Thousands of police officers from across the country will be there in support.

Governor Jerry Brown is expected to attend the memorial service Thursday morning. The service begins at 10:00 a.m.

The procession route to Oracle Arena will be northbound Mission Boulevard to Foothill, west on A Street, and then to Highway 880, according to the city of Hayward. Expect delays in those areas at the time of the procession.
