SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — A vigil has been taken place for a woman who went missing and was found beaten, burned and left for dead in the East Bay Friday night in San Leandro.
Karla Ramirez, 21, who was a volunteer for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, went missing two days ago and her body was discovered in Oakland’s Arroyo Viejo Park on Thursday. Now family and friends are gathering to remember the life of Ramirez.
The family was not immediately available to speak with KRON4 News, but a close friend described Ramirez as a nice person who brought joy to people.
The aunt of Karla Ramirez told KRON4 News that she recently applied to volunteer at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department, and was excited to start a career in law enforcement.
Another friend Joorg Zamora, described Ramirez as a fun person who could make anyone laugh. Zamora also said that his girlfriend was the last person to see Ramirez.
“Karla dropped her off, Karla left and later on I get a text from my girl in the morning saying hey Karla’s been gone for a couple hours and I said don’t worry she’s probably going to get there [home] but we waited today, nothing we waited today, and today they let us know what happened.”
Two suspects have been arrested, one of them being a girlfriend of Karla.
