FOUNTAIN, Colo. – A Colorado man is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a four-month-old baby.

Fountain police said Branden Harms, 28, is charged with first-degree murder of a child under 12 and child abuse resulting in death.

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, police were called to Memorial Hospital to investigate a possible case of child abuse. The victim, a 4-month-old girl, had life-threatening injuries.

Police learned Harms was the girl’s mom’s boyfriend, and he had been caring for the baby while the mom was away for a few hours. When the mom returned home, she immediately noticed her baby needed medical attention, and took her to Memorial Hospital. The baby was then transferred to Denver Children’s Hospital for more specialized treatment. She died there on Tuesday.
