SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Cinco de Mayo is Thursday and many Bay Area residents will enjoy the holiday by feasting on some delicious Mexican food or enjoying some margaritas.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates when the Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Now, 154 years later, we still celebrate the unlikely victory.

“1000 inner-city children from bay area neighborhoods will be given a Cinco de Mayo unlike they’ve ever experienced before. Huge puppets, a lively original musical drama about Junipero Serra, beautiful costumes, dancing, followed by a Fiesta with face painting, flower arranging, 10 foot puppets in the Battle of Puebla where the children themselves enact the full story. Throughout they are given little sayings to overcome fear, for being small, for bullying, to have these with them well beyond the day. One child said, ‘this was the best day of my life.”Cinco de Mayo 2016 at El Jardin
