PITTSBURG (KRON) — A California Highway Patrol aircraft followed a fleeing car from Oakland to Pittsburg, and the pursuit ended in a crash, according to CHP Oakland.
It started at around 7:50 p.m. Friday evening when CHP officers saw a red Mercedes driving on northbound SR-13 in Oakland. CHP saw the car did not have any license plates, so officers tried to stop the car but the driver tried to speed away, CHP said.
Officers suspended their pursuit, and a CHP aircraft followed the suspect car from there. Officers tracked the car onto northbound 680, then to northbound 242, and eventually onto eastbound Highway 4, CHP Oakland said.
The suspect vehicle then exited at Bailey Road in Pittsburg. Pittsburg police eventually caught up to the car and used spikes at Leland and Railroad.
The car tried to drive back towards the freeway but hit a pole on the railroad overcrossing above Highway 4. The suspect then tried to run away from the car he was driving and tried to carjack another driver, CHP said.
But the CHP and police were able to take the suspect into custody, CHP said.
